Numbers and Daubers in Bingo

The spirit of the game Bingo lies in the co-existence of the numbers in the cage and the daubers in the hands of the Bingo players.

Numbers mean balls rotated inside the basket by the caller before each announcement. Bingo platform blessed with the technology marvels often exhibit electronics devices operated by electricity. Irrespective of the rotating pattern, there exist mostly 75 balls inside the box. All the balls are earmarked by the unique number ranging 1 to 75. The Bingo becomes more fashionable when each of the balls carries one letter from the word Bingo. It is mandatory that each ball must be equal in its size, shape, weight and in every other aspect.

In mechanical Bingo devices the caller waits for the ball to come to rest and then picks up one for the announcement. The electronic device automatically traps a ball by the blower. In any case, once the ball is picked up by the caller, the number is announced and the player marks the number in his printed sheet. Large Bingo houses provide electronics display board where the called number automatically sparkles. Players use Daubers to mark their sheets. The dauber leaves a thick and legible colour smudge on the boundary line of the number, when the player presses it.

However, the thrilling excitement of Bingo gets hardly reduced in the absence of modern electronic scoreboard or dauber. Some people feel that the traditional way of announcement and marking the figures with a pencil make them more nostalgic.
